Abstract

In the article recent data about causes, risk factors, and clinical peculiarities of vascular dementia (VaD) are presented. The evolution of views on VaD terminology is shown. The VaD pathogenesis is considered and it is emphasized the fact that nowadays VaD is considered as mixed dementia. The classifi cation and diagnostic criteria for VaD are presented. The main treatment and prevention strategies for VaD and its basic manifestation, cognitive impairments, are described.
