Abstract
Autoimmune encephalitis (AE) is a neurological disease characterized with damages of grey matter predominantly. In the pathogenesis of AE, the main role belongs to autoantibodies to intra- or extra structures of the nervous system, as antigens. Along with an integral examination, including neuroimaging, electroencephalography, investigation of cerebrospinal fl uid, and detection of antibodies to NMDA receptors, in some cases a search of oncological markers or nidi should be added to the diagnostic algorithm. A therapeutic algorithm for AE includes a combined prescription of glucocorticosteroid therapy, plasmapheresis, immunoglobulins, cytostatics, monoclonal anti bodies, as well as surgical interventions if an oncological process is revealed in some cases.
