Community-based mental health care in Ukraine: problems and decisions

Abstract

In the article an analysis is given on statistical indexes which determine a state of a mental health of the population of Ukraine and a readiness of the psychiatric service to provide an eff ective care.

The work emphasizes that the main purpose of reforming of mental health care is a creation of a community-based mental health care and this requires changes on legislative, structural-organizational, methodological, and staff directions. The authors describe performed and planned steps to develop a community-based mental health care in Ukraine
