State and perspectives of development of the mental health service in Ukraine

Abstract

In the article data about a state and perspectives of development of the mental health service in Ukraine are presented. It was pointed out that now a process of an active revision of priorities and values is going on in the mental health service to change its ideology should be estimated taking into account a contemporary state of psychiatric care and its dynamics. An incidence and a prevalence of mental and behavioral disorders in Ukraine have been growing during last years. One of the effi cacy criteria of work of the service is a rate of disability (number of disabled people had been growing on 25.9 % during last 10 years).

A comprehensive realization of the model of a social-oriented psychiatric care is impossible without the State Program directed to improvement of mental health of population of Ukraine. In realization of this Programm we need to focus on solving a number of problems such as an overcoming of stigmatization, an amendment of a legislative basis for mental health care, a providing of its accessibility and diff erentiation, a development of cooperation of various division of the health service system, an involvement of patients, their families and non-government care organizations in the mental health service.
