Abstract

Objective: to determine the characteristics of acute reactive states in caregivers of patients following endovascular thrombectomy according to degree of kinship.

In 2022–2025, a prospective clinical study included 107 individuals from the patients’ close circle who provided direct care. Mean age was 54.3 ± 10.5 years. Participants were divided into three groups: spouses, children, and other persons. Assessment was performed within the first three days after stroke onset using clinical-psychopathological and psychodiagnostic methods (SCL-90-R) and statistical analysis.

Clinically significant anxiety and depression were found in 100% of the closest relatives (spouses and children). Spouses showed clinically significant somatization in 100% and phobic anxiety in 36.4% (p<0.001). Patients’ children significantly more often demonstrated interpersonal sensitivity (100%; p < 0.05) and hostility (100%; p < 0.001). Distress was least pronounced in persons with other degrees of kinship. The Global Severity Index confirmed overall psychological distress in 100% of first-degree relatives.

In the most acute period after thrombectomy, the structure of psychopathological manifestations varies according to the caregiver’s degree of kinship. The findings support early psychological screening and focused crisis interventions for patients’ families.
