Abstract

The aim of the study was to test and evaluate the effectiveness of a subsensory psychocorrectional intervention method used in psychocorrectional work with patients with stress-associated disorders. We developed a specialised method of subsensory psychocorrectional intervention based on the use of rapidly presented subsensory visual stimuli. A total of 114 patients with various clinical forms of stress-associated disorders (F43.1, F43.21, F43.22, and F43.25) were examined. The main group comprised 34 patients, while the comparison group included 80 patients. In addition to treatment and rehabilitation provided in accordance with existing clinical protocols, patients in the main group received sessions of comprehensive subsensory intervention, whereas patients in the comparison group did not receive subsensory stimulation. To evaluate the effectiveness of the subsensory psychocorrectional intervention, psychodiagnostic assessments were conducted before the initiation of psychocorrection and after its completion. The following psychodiagnostic instruments were used: the Acute Stress Reaction Questionnaire, the Spielberger–Khanin State-Trait Anxiety Inventory, the Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, the Mississippi Scale for the Assessment of Post-Traumatic Reactions, the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test, the Connor–Davidson Resilience Scale, and the General Perception of Quality of Life measure. Upon completion of the treatment course, positive changes in virtually all clinical and psychological characteristics were observed in patients in both groups; however, more substantial changes in several key indicators were found in the main group. Thus, under the influence of subsensory psychocorrection, patients demonstrated a statistically significant reduction in the severity of anxiety symptoms, increased resilience to stress and an enhanced ability to cope with stress in constructive ways, improved quality of life, and reduced risks of alcohol misuse.
