Abstract

The issues of diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), especially in military personnel, have now become the most relevant for our country. The aim of the study was to examine changes in brain electrical activity in military personnel with PTSD and to suggest a method for their correction. 55 male military patients with PTSD, aged 20 to 60, were examined, and for comparison, a group of healthy subjects of the same age (50 people) was used. The characteristics of brain bioelectrical activity in military personnel with PTSD at rest differed significantly from the baseline values of healthy subjects: the amplitude of alpha waves was reduced more than 2 times, beta waves by 1.5 times, the alpha index was significantly lower, and the beta index was higher, with a much higher activation coefficient. The activation response when opening the eyes in military personnel with PTSD was extremely weak, and the activation coefficient practically did not change. To correct the detected changes, the examined patients may be offered a course of biofeedback therapy, specifically alpha training.
