Abstract
In this work, an in-depth analysis of modern scientifi c views on biochemical, neurophysiological and psychosocial mechanisms of interinfl uence of alcohol dependence (AD) and social stress is carried out. It is concluded that AD, being a common medical and social problem, is becoming more topical and common under the conditions of socioeconomic changes and military confl icts. The robust relationship between AD and social stress is established both at the genetic and biochemical (common genes and biochemical agents which take part in adaptation to stress and development of dependence) and at the population-based (AD is more often registered in people who are more stressed) levels. These common mechanisms cause the emergence of comorbidity between post-stress conditions and AD, and alcohol often acts as a maladaptive coping strategy, which is attached at the neurophysiological level in the form of a classical conditioning. Taking into account the systemic interinfl uence of these two phenomena, approaches to the treatment of AD with comorbid post-stress conditions should be based on biopsychosocial principles, and existing therapeutic and rehabilitation strategies should be substantially modifi ed taking into account the aggravating eff ect of stress on the formation and progress of AD.
