Abstract

In the present paper a modern approaches to treatment of epilepsy have been looked. A main attention paid to possibilities of new generation’s anticonvulsants as an effective tools of monotherapy and add-on therapy of different clinical forms of this disease. Mechanisms of action and clinical efficacy of one of the most perspective new drug-anticonvulsant — topiramate (Epiramat) have been analyzed in details. Expediency of use of this drug in different treatment strategies of epilepsy in patients of different ages has been grounded.
