Abstract Dementia is the most severe clinical variant of cognitive dysfunction in the elderly. Dementia is understanded as diff use impairment of mental functions due to organic brain damage, that is manifested by primary disorders of thinking and memory and secondary emotional and behavioral disorders. The article describes etiopathogenesis, risk factors, clinical manifestations at different stages of diagnosis and treatment of vascular dementia.
