Abstract In order to study individual psychological and social-psychological maladjustment features of wives and mothers suff ering from paranoid schizophrenia (PS) with a long term illness, to determine targets psycho further work, at the Kharkiv regional neuropsychiatric clinic in the period from 2012 to 2016 with clinical psychopathological and psychodiagnostic methods were examined 320 mothers or wives of patients with PS. Group 1 patients accounted patient’s mothers (166 families), group 2 — patient’s wife’s (154 families). The psychological profile of mothers of patients with PS testifi ed more pronounced signs of personal maladjustment, compared with wives who discovered higher rates of depression and anxiety, greater severity of hypochondriacal tendencies and a higher risk of psychosomatic features and viewed as manifestations of neuroticism by neurotic type. The psychological profi le of the wives of patients with PS testifi ed to the presence of pronounced signs of maladjustment personal dominated hypostenic forms of response, the desire to avoid stressful situations, conformism, escapism and reflective tendencies. Domination resistant depression and anxiety-depressive emotions formed specifi c pathopersonological picture and personality changes. Psychosocial exclusion installed in all the patients, in their mothers, it was more pronounced (148.14 ± 31.80 points) than wives (143.72 ± 33.78 points). The structure of social and psychological maladjustment signifi cant diff erences were found: in both groups, the problem areas identified himself adoption, rejection of others, emotional discomfort, domination and conformity. Identified patterns were taken into consideration by us in the development of appropriate remedial measures for this group.
