Abstract Cognitive dysfunction is increasingly attracting the attention of physicians and researchers due to a wide spread of this disease and the lack of “ideal” neuroprotective agents for their correction. This article suggests ways to optimize the nootropic therapy with the drugs piracetam and gammaaminobutyric acid. Neurotransmitter and vasotropic effects of piracetam in some cases are not sufficiently pronounced to achieve a clinically signifi cant eff ect. Pharmacodynamics of gamma-aminobutyric acid mainly includes neurotransmitter action, the impact on the energy of the neuron, which combines soothing and mild stimulating eff ect and the presence of anticonvulsant activity. At the same time, nootropic and especially vasotropic eff ects of gamma-aminobutyric acid are not enough expressed, which requires the additional purpose of other neuroprotective or vasotropic agents. In their joint application in the form of a fi xed combination have been marked the pharmacodynamic synergism of monocomponents of the original drug “Olatropil”. Thus, the combination of piracetam with gamma-aminobutyric acid in the drug “Olatropil” reduces the risk of piracetam side eff ects and optimize the nootropic therapy each of the drugs individually.
Key words “Olatropil”; piracetam; gamma-aminobutyric acid; synergism; neurogeroprotection
