Abstract The examination included patients with paranoid schizophrenia and their referential relatives with the aim to examine the level of their social intel-ligence as one of the factors that deter-mines the level of social functioning of the individual. The study of the clinical psychopathological proi le of the disease has permitted to distinguish the preva-lent complexes of symptoms of the ini-tial period (neurotic disorders, subaf ec-tive variations, psychopathic disorders), as well as the signs of the psychotic manifestation (hallucinatory disorders, af ective-delirious states). There were established three ranks of the social functioning of the referential relatives of the patients with schizophrenia: very low, low, and satisfactory. They were studied the features of the social intelli-gence as a personal communicative trait in patients with paranoid schizophrenia and in their referential relatives. It was established the average level of the so-cial intelligence in referential relatives of the patients with schizophrenia, that lower their capacity for interpersonal knowledge, eliminates the possibility of an adequate understanding of the behavior of patients with schizophre-nia in a concrete situation and creates preconditions for the deformation of the social cognition as well identii ed patients as in their referential relatives.
