Abstract The article presents the results of the scientific study on the treatment of comorbid depressive symptoms in patients with various clinical types of dementia with Cognifen. This drug is combined and contains noobut and neuromidin, thus acts as a sedative eff ect of nootropic and anticholinesterase medication. Patients were examined in three groups: with dementia, with Alzheimer’s disease, vascular dementia and dementia of mixed type. The positive eff ect of the drug on reduction of depressive symptoms at various clinical types of dementia and reduction of the level of depression from severe and moderate to mild was proven. The article presents the dynamics of the separate components of depressive syndrome as a result of treatment. The positive eff ect of the drug on the reduction of suicidal manifestations (anti-vital statements, thoughts, intentions, attempts) in patients with dementia due to Alzheimer’s disease and of mixed type at the level of p ≤ 0.05 was proven. Thus, Cognifen can be recommended for reduction of comorbid depressive symptoms in patients with dementia, what allows to avoid polypragmasy and addition appointment of antidepressants and tranquilizers.
