Abstract The article describes the impact of a traumatic event associated with prenatal diagnosis of congenital heart disease in the foetus, as well as coping strategies of pregnant women and their husbands. It was found that the majority of pregnant women and their husbands after prenatal diagnosis focused on the search for possible ways how to deal eff ectively with the problems and how to use their personal resources. However, almost 60 % of men and women did not want to ask for help and support to the relatives, and 20 % of women were trying to avoid the reality associated with prenatal diagnosis and the need for further surgical treatment of the child. Development and implementation of medical and psychological support of pregnant women awaiting birth of a child with congenital heart disease is needed in Ukraine.
Key words prenatal diagnosis, congenital heart disease, pregnancy, stress, coping strategies
